I'm bumming on Malibu

Not having it. Not feeling it. Went out the other day, during "the first decent swell all season" there, and yes, the waves were magnificent, but utterly littered with choad. Thousands of them it seemed. Choads from miles around. Desperate, aggro, and lacking all courtesy. I'd see a wave coming in at first point, and 8 choads would paddle for it, all in a row. 2 would pull out, 6 would make it, 2-3 of them would collide or nearly collide as they snaked the hell out of each other, and the other 700 of us would sit there watching. It was so gross. I've never seen anything like that in San Diego. You just don't do that shit where I normally surf. The ladays there seemed way nicer, but many of them are like the best long boarders around, so how can I ever hope to get a wave in such a setting?

Even thinking about it makes me sad....which is why I was so happy and relieved to find this.

Capt'n's Log

Subjects:
1. Reunion of the Team
2. Rediscovering the Mad Ride

It was a triumphant weekend for The Capt'n, the greatest triumph of all being the arrival of Sea Monkey and his new lady friend, Nicola. This Capt'n, being an explorer and not a poet, cannot fully express in words what a poet would call joy. Suffice it to say that in this game of life, having Sea Monkey back in California is akin to getting a Mad Ride.
Which brings me to the second subject: Rediscovering the Mad Ride.
It had been so long since I'd gotten a Mad Ride that I'd started to forget the joy as the poets would say of the surf. Not that I'm complaining, I mean I'm not sure Sea Monkey can even remember the last time she was on the Snow Pony. But getting back to me, I'm thinking that since about November, really even before then, the full joy of the surfing experience has not been upon me. First, Sea Monkey left us to go pursue the cold and darkness of the east, though in the end what she found was the warmth of love, which means that she's never moving back to California, but we're happy for her, and then secondly, what was left of Team Shredder moved to LA, which has been great in every way EXCEPT in the realm of surfing.
But this weekend was different. I got my beautiful 9'0" green rocket back from the repair shop and took it out for the first time since the awful collision at sea of which I will not speak, and it was like coming home. The cove at Tourmaline wasn't happening much, just occasional little mushburgers, so I paddled over to the pump house and found the action. The waves there are steeper and faster and lately very closed out, but on Sunday there were some peeling little jackhammers, and I got one late takeoff that shot me down the very vertical line like nobody's business. Eye of the tiger. Then on Monday I tried Cardiff, which has the potential of becoming my new favorite spot--yes I said that. Tourmaline will always be my first love and spiritual home break, and in the end probably my all-around favorite, but wow, Cardiff Reef is quite spectacular. It's so beautiful out there, the high cliffs are stunning, Pipes is a fun and exciting wave, and it's mostly women and older guys out there, so how can you lose?

!!!Testimonial!!!

We were incredibly blessed last week to host the Gaylord seminars on "Creative Touch" and "Accessories for Loving" (TM) here at Shredder HQ West. If you haven't already, women loving women, these are workshops are a must!!! I don't want to give too much away, but let me share with you some personal growth highlights:
Above -- Zamboni vs. Celtic Harp

And here is a choice lil nugget for anyone who has had problems (ok who hasn't!!) expressing Brown Hanky loving feelings in a shared bathroom/roomate situation... (Thanks Gaylord Accessories for Loving!)

We're getting ready for Sea Monkey's arrival and let me tell you, it's so exciting we're even cleaning the house.

An Interesting Show, Sho Enuf

2/3 of Team Shredder + Gaylord + her laday Marina + Ms. Dunye all had to pile in Gaylord and Marina's renta car and head on over to Los Angeles Contemporary Exhibitions in Hollywood, where we were treated to an xtrvaganza of art and things otherwise known as Shared Women, a group show curated by A.L. Steiner, Emily Roysdon, and Eve Fowler.
Sadly, The Capt'n did not personally get to view and experience every piece in the big show, as she had too much social overstimulation with which to contend. But she did get down with some great shit nonetheless, her favorites being Jeanine Oleson's World's Biggest Smudge Stick, the G.B. Jones drawings, A.L. Steiner's photo installache, and all of Nicole Eisenman's works, including this one.--->
I mean, there's no getting around it, this is fuckin funny. We had to crack up over it like 10 times.
